Have you ever had to re-create a CAD model inside of MAX/VIZ? Power Translators is the answer to get those CAD models and assemblies into MAX or VIZ with the push of a button. Power Translators reads IGES, STEP, SAT, and Rhino and creates a “BrepObject” to represent the precise geometry defined in these files.
Power Translators reads IGES, STEP, SAT, and Rhino and creates a “BrepObject” to represent the precise geometry defined in these files. It can then create a mesh at render time to a specified user defined tolerance relative to the size of the object in the image. For example, a tolerance of 1/2 Pixel will produce an extremely high quality image with very smooth edges that do not have polygonal artifacts. The “BrepObject” introduced by Power Translators can have materials applied at the sub-object level and is able to utilize most MAX Meshmodifiers (twist, UVMap, etc.).

Penguin: A conceptual, sketch and cartoon, non-photometric scan line renderer for Rhino
Filed Under Software Watch | Leave a Comment

Penguin is a conceptual, sketch and cartoon, non-photometric scan line renderer. With Penguin you can create stylized images of your models with an artistic look for enhanced graphic and visual appeal.
- Conceptual, non-photorealistic renderer.
- Easy to use, works seamlessly inside Rhino, and provides a host of features that speed and simplify image rendering for conceptual design or illustration purposes.
- Fast. Quickly produces an image in the desired resolution.
- Uses OpenGL rendering for fast results.
- Works inside Rhino or AutoCAD. Render changes to the model immediately. You never need to export or start over.
- Renders all models (except Flamingo or AccuRender plants).
- Batch rendering through scripts.
- Antialiasing with user control.
- Can be combined with Flamingo or AccuRender renderings for true artistic results.
- Two rendering modes (and more will be made available): sketch and cartoon.
- Ability to create your own rendering styles based in these rendering modes.
- Support for TGA, BMP, PCX, PNG and JPEG file formats.
- Background bitmap.
- Simulates hand drafting. It allows you to create images in styles that look like drawings using pencil, ink, chalk, pen marker, watercolor (and others).
- Configurable parameters for the wavy or straight lines. Control over line width, intensity, and color.
- Texture fill. Simulating pencil, watercolor. User definable texture fill styles.
- Objects rendered with a limited number of shades and edges draw with a line to generate “illustration” drawings.
- Controls the color and width of the silhouettes, borders, and creases.

The RPC Shadow Light Plugin allows users to quickly and easily generate shadows for RPC Content in their scenes. The plugin provides a new RPC Shadow Light that can be placed in a scene for casting fast shadows.
The RPC Shadow Light Plugin allows 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ users to quickly and easily generate shadows for the RPC Content in their scenes. The plugin provides a new RPC Shadow Light that can be placed in a scene corresponding to the position of a primary lightsource(s) such as the sun.
The RPC Shadow Light works by automatically generating a mask of select RPC Content and then removing light from the scene where the RPCs should cast a shadow. By design, the plugin does not interfere or change any lightsources you have placed previously in your scene.

ArchVision Creator Pro makes it easy to create your own individual RPCs from any photographic, video, or 3D rendered images. With Creator Pro, artists can create user-friendly RPCs from their existing models.
Creator Pro users have the ability to reduce the rendering overhead of polygon-heavy geometric models by converting a series of images rendered around the object into a resource-friendly RPC. Here are some of the features that come with RPC Creator Pro:
- Create 2D, 2.5D, 3D & 3.5D RPCs from any application.
- Ability to use any source images.
- Image sequence loader.
- Invert View Order option.
- Customize Category & Names of RPCs.
- DXF/OBJ Icon Importer.
- Load custom previews & icons.
- Storage of custom meta data with each RPC.
- View new RPCs with integrated RPC ActiveX Viewer.
- RPCs will work with any RPC Enabled application.

- Viewpoint animation (for walk-through and fly-by animation). Sunlight animation for daily or seasonal shadow studies
- Combine raytracing and radiosity for highest quality images. Calculates light, shadows, materials, transparency, diffusion, reflection, highlight, Angular Blend, ClearFinish™, and refraction from a surface’s properties.
- Background options include solid color, gradient colors, alpha channel and image map.
- Distant, point, spot, linear, rectangular lights, goniometric, sun, ground, and sky. Accurate daylight simulation (sun, sky, ground, and cloud cover components). Exact solar time calculator. Shadow casting on/off by object.
- Extensive materials library. Assign materials by layer or object. Properties include reflectivity, transparency, highlight, and index of refraction.
- Extensive library with hundreds of fractal-generated 3-D plants including wet and dry climate plants, cold and warm climate plants, groundcover, and house plants.

RPC Plugin for Cinema 4D: Developed in conjunction with Maxon, the RPC Plugin is available for Cinema 4D R9
Filed Under Software Watch | 2 Comments

The same plugin works for both Maya versions 5 and 6. Also, the RPC Plugin works in conjunction with the Mental Ray renderer in Maya.
- RPC Smart Content: RPC Smart Content heralds a new era in the creation of dynamic, easy to use content. With RPC Smart Content the user is presented with content specific controls that take once tediuous tasks and make them as easy as the click of a mouse. The first content collections to take advantage of these new features are RPC Automobiles.
- More Efficient Rendering: In benchmark tests versus RPC 1.0, RPC 3.0 is up to 400% more efficient. That means that your current scenes will render as much as 75% faster, or you’ll be able to add significantly more RPC content to your scene without an increase in total rendering time required.
- Editing Tools: RPC 3.0 includes an editing dialog box that makes global changes to your RPC content simpler and faster than ever before. Need to make all of your oak trees taller? Make a global change with just a few mouse clicks. Control jitter? Again, one interface and a few mouse clicks and you’re done. These and other editing options are now at your fingertips.
- Photoshop Filters for RPCs: While RPC has been an invaluable tool for increasing the realism of computer visualization, sometimes you need a more stylized look. That’s what drove ArchVision to introduce a collection of stylized RPC people several months ago. The success of that collection led us to provide support for Photoshop 5.5 filters. So you can now stylize your current regular RPC content in countless new ways to achieve just the look you’re after.
